BIOGRAPHY
Derek Moloney is native of Limerick city and has been a professional tenor since winning Irish TV RTE's 'Search For A Tenor' in 2002.
Best Selling Irish Tenor
Since then Derek has recorded three independent albums, the last two of which went to No. 1 in the classical charts. Derek has performed throughout Ireland and Europe, and in the last two years has had four successful tours of the United States. In the new year he will embark on what he hopes will be a successful career in the Opera world. As he says, "It takes a lot of struggling and hard work but with some luck and persistence it will be worth it".
Stand Up And Fight
Derek has become synonymous with Munster and Irish Rugby in his hometown of Limerick City, and has had the honour of singing at many of their games in Thomond Park and Lansdowne Rd over the past four years. His version of 'STAND UP AND FIGHT', which he recorded with renowned composer/arranger Frank Mcnamara, has become a favourite of the Munster Rugby fans and was available for download from the official Munster website in the build up to the 2008 Heineken Cup Final, and to Derek's delight was played in the Millenium Stadium for all the fans to hear after Munster's win over Toulouse.
An Irish Tenor With A Difference
At the moment Derek is busy recording his new album which will be available early next year. With this recording Derek is pushing the boundaries of what is expected from an Irish Tenor. "I am an Irish Tenor, but must importantly I am a singer. Sometimes I feel that there is a perception of what an Irish Tenor is and should be. What I'm trying to do is change that perception and really push the envelope of expectation. My aim is to build a career that will be unique and exciting, but above all entertaining. All going well this recording is a step in the right direction".
With musical influences from Opera to Pop to Rock, e.g, Domingo, Pavorotti, Caruso, Timberlake, U2, Coldplay, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, and many more, the future should be very interesting for Derek Moloney.
Stay Tuned.
